Day Six: ‘Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road’

April 6, 2017

Make the turn, left from Jefferson,
and you’re onto a strip of auto-body
repair huts, the bus depot, and grease-swilled garages.
The railroad tracks bump riders and weaken tires,
so ease it. Pass the porno store where I
spent part of my 18th birthday — the shop that once
wrought silence dead as winter on a ride with mom.
Two colleges, both half a foot away,
surround this weathered, oil-sick street called home
by dirt heaps, digger-claw machines, the rough
hands that man them. You won’t be on it
more than a mile before you hit the mall.
Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road:
No confusion there. No whimsy either.
